Ponds v
s. Lakes
PONDS
Ponds are bodies of standing bodies of fresh water that are typically smaller than lakes.
They are shallow water bodies that have marshy qualities and support plant and animal life.
While there are no formal definitions delineating ponds from lakes, several proposals have been brought up.
A fresh water habitat in which the water stays in one place.
A healthy pool of fresh water.
LAKES
An island body of
relatively
motionless water that usually has a river or stream feeding into or draining out of it.
Lakes are often in isolated places.
A lake usually contains fresh water, but some can be slat water.
Located on the border of the USA and Canada are the Great Lakes of North America.
Interesting animals and plants may evolve in lakes.
